Basic: Free · Advanced: five-reply preview for eligible accounts, then Plus · iOS 27+
Basic AI — Voice Navigation
Say “open radar” or “set the location to Denver” to move around the app. You can also change what the radar shows or pause the radio station you are listening to.
Ask “What is the flash-flood risk for today?” to check a weather risk. Voice navigation is free in both AI modes. Features such as Live Radar still require Plus.
Advanced AI — Conversation
Ask “What are the biggest weather threats today?” or “What am I seeing on the radar?” Then ask follow-up questions. Advanced AI can look up weather information and explain the map or forecast you are viewing.
Apple Private Cloud Compute processes your questions, relevant weather information, and screenshots taken while the app is open. Screenshots help the AI explain what you see; they are not saved or taken in the background.
Made for the way you listen
Turn on AI in Settings, then tap Talk to begin. Once it is set up, you can also ask Siri to start a conversation. With hands-free enabled, listening pauses while your device speaks and resumes afterward.
Read along with the conversation or listen using your VoiceOver speech preferences. Gentle taps let you know when the app is listening or working on your request. Say “pause chat” to pause or “end chat” to finish. You can turn AI off at any time.
Frequently asked questions
Basic AI — Voice Navigation is free. Use it to change screens, choose a weather location, control available radar layers or selected radio playback, and check published hazard information. Advanced AI — Conversation adds weather conversations, follow-up questions, weather tools, and descriptions of the weather content on your screen. Existing Plus requirements for features such as Live Radar still apply in either mode.
WeatherGuardian AI is available in version 5.0 on iOS 27 or later. Enable it in Settings → WeatherGuardian AI and choose an experience. Advanced AI also requires a compatible device with Apple Intelligence enabled, an internet connection, and Apple Private Cloud Compute availability. Existing app features remain available on supported devices running iOS 17 or later.
Eligible accounts receive five completed Advanced AI replies per verified App Store account, shared across devices. After those replies, Advanced conversations require WeatherGuardian Plus. Ordinary navigation commands stay free in either mode and do not use a reply. The preview has no daily reset and does not start a subscription. It is separate from any eligible App Store subscription trial.
Yes. Use Restore AI Trial in AI Settings with the same App Store account. Reinstalling the app does not create another allowance. Minimal account eligibility, usage, and device participation records are retained to protect the trial, including after notification registration is deleted. These records contain no chats, audio, screenshots, or weather locations.
Advanced AI sends your chat messages, speech transcripts, relevant weather context, and screenshots of the visible WeatherGuardian window to Apple Private Cloud Compute to answer your request. Microphone audio is transcribed on your device. PCC request data is not stored or accessible to Apple staff, and WeatherGuardian developers do not collect your chats. Conversations remain in app memory until you end the session. Screenshots remain in memory and are not saved or taken in the background.
Advanced AI can explain the main weather content you are viewing, such as storms on a radar map, a forecast, or a selected hazard. It uses a fresh foreground screenshot and available weather data, rather than continuously watching the screen. Ask a follow-up question for more detail. It may be unable to interpret content that is hidden, loading, or unclear.
Open the AI panel and tap Talk to start. The app requests microphone permission when you first start speaking. With hands-free enabled, it waits until speech stops, then allows one additional second of silence before sending your request. Listening resumes after device speech finishes while the app is in the foreground. With hands-free off, use Send Voice when you are ready. Tap Pause or say “pause chat” to keep your transcript and stop listening until you tap Talk. Tap End or say “end chat,” “goodbye,” or “stop listening” to close the chat and clear the session. You can disable AI at any time in AI Settings.
After configuring and enabling AI in the app, say “Start a conversation with WeatherGuardian” to Siri. The app opens your selected experience and starts listening after Siri finishes speaking. If AI is disabled or setup is incomplete, Siri asks you to configure WeatherGuardian AI first.
The assistant may ask you to restate an unclear request or choose between likely options. For a navigation choice, say the option’s name, “the first option,” or “option three,” or tap its button. If it asks whether you meant to end or pause the chat, answer yes or no. You can always use the on-screen Pause and End buttons.
AI can perform supported viewing actions, such as changing tabs, choosing a weather location, switching available radar layers, and controlling selected radio playback. Alert configuration, notification settings, purchases, and account changes remain manual. Voice commands do not bypass existing Plus requirements.
The assistant provides an accessible transcript and labeled Talk, Pause, and End controls. Spoken replies honor available accessibility speech preferences, and Advanced replies use plain text when VoiceOver is enabled. Listening pauses while device speech plays. Haptic cues indicate listening and processing.
Apple Private Cloud Compute availability, connection problems, or usage limits can interrupt Advanced conversations. The app explains the limitation, and Basic AI remains available. Navigation does not require an Advanced trial reply.
No. AI explains retrieved weather information and can make mistakes. Check source times and official alerts, especially when conditions are changing. Radar analysis and outlook probabilities are different from an active warning. Follow National Weather Service warnings, NOAA Weather Radio, Wireless Emergency Alerts, and instructions from public safety officials.
